Will You Show Kindness to a Stranger?

Show kindnessShow up or don’t show up.

That was the question.

It started simple enough.

Step out of my Comfort Zone.

Do a Facebook Live.

Talk about showing up and choosing connection even when it’s hard.

Obedience over Comfort.

Because I always listen (try not to laugh) to the small voice that stirs my heart,  I yoked (not yolk) up to Christ and got to it. It's time to Yoke Up and follow Christ. Click To Tweet

I sucked up my insecurities, reminded myself of the 1 tip to believe I am enough, and off to the races I went.

Once it was over, I changed my blouse and slept off my Facebook Live hangover.

1. I didn’t know I could sweat through my shirt without exercise. Is that a SuperPower?

2. Sitting still and talking to myself is exhausting.

Just when I thought I did my part…

God kept on messing with me.

I started hearing from people who took the challenge to heart.

I know, right. Who knew?

Then I saw (completely unrelated to me and my little blog) Melissa Radke post on Instagram about a random act of kindness she did.

After that, I watched Karen Ehman do a Facebook Live showing her #5dollardash as part of her book launch for Listen Love Repeat. (*I have no connection to Karen’s book or Amazon)

So…It got me thinking. (Insert evil villain laughter)

Let’s do this thing for real.

Shall we give it a name?

Kindness challenge 2016

Show Kindness to a Stranger.

Take Karen Ehman’s challenge, pay for someone’s food like Melissa Radke, write a note to the janitor/cafeteria staff at your kid’s school, slip a note in the mailbox for the Mail Carrier, Ding Dong Ditch your neighbor or take goodies to your veterinarian.

How about meeting up with a group of friends to take the challenge together?

You’ll be connecting AND showing kindness. (That just blew my mind.)

Fantastic idea. Last week I wrote three note cards to friends and a family member. It felt really good. I just wanted to be a fly on the wall when they got it to see if it brought any joy to them. I know it brought me joy. You are doing great work Rebecca.

I was the family member who was the recipient of notecard, and it lightened my heart. Not only for the day, but every day since – it sits smiling at me on my countertop reminding me how blessed I am. Now it’s time for me Show Some Kindness, and I gladly accept the Challenge.

That is incredibly sweet. Can’t wait to hear what you come up with for the challenge.

Ah, Thanks Lou Ann. That was so thoughtful of you to take time to write letters to friends. I’m sure it warmed their heart.

Girlfriend, you’re on to something BIG. And we must be sharing a brain, because just this morning *before I read your post*, I ran out early, before Mr 1915 took the kids to school, and got two of my favorite people (who work at the school) their favorite hot drinks from a local coffee shop. Just because. This kindness thing is huge – and SO much fun!!! Thanks for the inspirations!

    • Rebecca Williamson November 15, 2016 at 5:53 pm

You made my day, friend! I’ll share a brain with you anyday.

Obedience over comfort. Amen, amen, amen. That is something God has been teaching me this year as I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone to start speaking. Great post!

    • Rebecca Williamson November 16, 2016 at 3:33 pm

Thank you, Lauren. I love that you’ve stepped out of your comfort zone. I’d love to hear more about what God has shown you through Obedience over Comfort.

Great challenge Rebecca! I got some thinking to do on this……
About once a month, I usually pay for a starbucks for the person behind me in the starbucks drive thru and ask the barista to write “God asked me to bless you today” or “Jesus loves you!”
But I would love to try something new!

    • Rebecca Williamson November 16, 2016 at 3:36 pm

Thanks so neat, Carmen. BUT it won’t count for prizes in this challenge unless you tag me on Instagram. (Totally messing with you, friend) I can hardly wait to hear what you come up with.

  • Laura Roth November 16, 2016 at 11:36 am

Oh, I absolutely have goosebumps! I love this challenge!

    • Rebecca Williamson November 16, 2016 at 3:37 pm

Laura, I’m excited that you’re excited. Go forth and spread The Kindness!

  • Natalie @ Milk & Honey Faith November 16, 2016 at 3:44 pm

This is a really sweet idea Rebecca. I’ll have to remember to whip out my phone and Instagram my moment. That may prove to be more of a problem than actually choosing a moment 😉

    • Rebecca Williamson November 16, 2016 at 8:17 pm

Thats why you need to gather up your people, Natalie. Someone to document the kindness 🙂 I look forward to seeing it-or just hearing about it later.

You are so darling, I love your heart! You rock FB Live and I’ll be looking for ways to be a Secret Spy for Christ this week?

    • Toni Harvey November 17, 2016 at 8:37 am

Um, that little smiley face I left looks sinister, maybe that’s too go along with the evil villian laughter LOL ?

    • Rebecca Williamson November 18, 2016 at 4:21 pm

Woo Hoo! Love it, Toni! I look forward to seeing your spy mission!

  • Carlen November 17, 2016 at 8:39 am

Oh Rebecca, I LOVE your heart in this. I can feel every emotion without you having to describe it because I get it, dear sister.
    Thank you for this.

This is so awesome! I cannot wait to see where this challenge takes me. I am inspired by a few of the ideas you shared and can’t wait to implement them into my daily routine. This is something I want to make a part of my daily life not just a once off thing that is forgotten about until this time next year. Thank you for the inspiration.

    • Rebecca Williamson November 20, 2016 at 1:25 pm

You are so welcome, Ref J. You’re words are exactly my prayer. My ultimate goal is to encourage you (and myself) to become more aware of simple ways to bless others in our daily life. Thank you for reading and your beautiful comment.
